Dr. Chris Dupont is an Associate Professor in the Microbial and Environmental Genomics Department at JCVI. His primary research focus is microbial physiology and the environmental and evolutionary influence on physiological variation. This involves work with model organisms in laboratory systems, domestication of wild microbes for model studies, and sequencing based profiling of microbial communities in a variety of environments, including organismal microbiomes. More recent work has focused on host-microbiome interactions in the context of host genetics and disease within skin, oral, intestinal, and upper respiratory tract microbiomes. Analytically, machine learning and computational biology are combined with ecology principles to develop conceptual and mathematical models for microbiome dynamics..Prior to joining JCVI, Chris received his Ph.D. in Oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, as well as a Bachelor's in Natural Resources and a Master's of Biological and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University.
