Dr. Anne Salonen is a principal investigator and adjunct professor at Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki, Finland. She has multidisciplinary training in biosciences and PhD in molecular virology (2004). Dr. Salonen has contributed to optimization and validation of methods for high-throughput microbiome analysis as well as to novel research concepts, such as the microbiota-based response stratification.
The research activities of Dr. Salonen are focused on the composition and activity of the intestinal microbiota in health and disease, especially in early life and in the context of obesity-associated metabolic diseases. Her specific interest is on the interactions between diet, intestinal microbiota and health. Recently she started vaginal microbiota research to provide insights on how life-style and different exposures shape these communities, and how they relate to clinical outcomes in gynecology and obstetrics.
